The Marine Safety Conference 2006, held on Queensland’s Gold Coast from 12 to 14 September, was deemed a great success with 400 delegates in attendance to hear over 60 speakers on a wide range of marine safety issues. To view the conference program <click here>
Popular session highlights included UK Professor Michael Tipton’s presentation on Essentials of Sea Survival, Skip Burdon’s update on the American Boat and Yacht Council standards, Donald Fry AO’s ‘Boyhood Dreams made real’, debates on PFDs (lifejackets) and oral examinations, setting standards for marine surveyors, search and rescue, skills shortages including within the fishing industry, interpreting marine incident data, radio communications, the AMSA Symposium on a range of issues and Mick Davidson’s pictorial boating journey into Antarctica . The Day 3 Site Visits to Riviera and Quintrex were also well-attended.
